Extension leads through the whole house are not an electrical problem. It is a layout problem.
Adding sockets in Amsterdam from € 145 per point including materials, labour, chasing and making good. Count what you need below and see the price straight away — the more points in one visit, the lower the rate per point.
Count your points and see the price, including the volume discount.
Enter the quantity per type. The more points in the same visit, the lower the rate per point — call-out, isolation and testing only need to happen once.
Why the price per point drops
Call-out, isolating the installation, recording measurements and clearing up happen once, whether we fit two points or twenty. From six points we therefore deduct ten percent, from twelve points fifteen percent.
Assuming an existing installation with earth and enough space in the consumer unit. Chasing in concrete or work above the third floor without a lift may differ.
How many outlets a room actually needs, and where they belong.
1970s homes typically have two sockets per room. A modern living room needs six to nine, and that is not luxury but the sum of TV, router, lamps, chargers and a vacuum cleaner.
| Ruimte | Aanbevolen | Waar precies | Often forgotten |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | 8 – 12 punten | Twee per wand, extra bij de tv en de bank | Behind the sofa for a lamp; floor socket by a floating piece of furniture |
| Keuken | 6 – 8 above the worktop | One double per metre of worktop | Twee bij de koffiemachine; punt in het eiland |
| Slaapkamer | 5 – 7 punten | Two on each side of the bed, at 70 cm height | USB-C naast het bed; punt bij de kaptafel |
| Werkkamer | 8 – 10 punten | Cluster van vier bij het bureau, plus data | Point for the printer; a data point saves Wi-Fi misery |
| Hal en overloop | 2 – 3 punten | At the door and halfway down the hall | Vacuum point; point for the meter cupboard or router |
| Bathroom | 1 – 2 punten | Only outside the zones | Point by the mirror for a hairdryer — outside the zones |
| Zolder en berging | 3 – 4 punten | At the stairs and by the washing machine | Point for the dryer; outdoor point by the back door |
| Tuin en balkon | 1 – 2 punten | IP44, bij de deur en achter in de tuin | Point for the robot mower or Christmas lights |
De hoogte bepaalt of u ze gebruikt
Sockets usually sit 30 centimetres from the floor. That works for the vacuum, but not for a lamp beside the bed or a kettle on the worktop. Our standard heights: 30 cm along the wall, 70 cm beside the bed and at a desk, and 110 to 120 cm above a worktop. It costs nothing extra to set them at the right height, provided you say so before chasing.
What actually happens when we add a socket — and what the € 145 covers.
The outlet itself costs a few euros. What you pay for is the cable from the nearest junction box or consumer unit, the back box in the wall, chasing and making good, finishing and testing. In most homes that is three-quarters of an hour to an hour per point.
Waar de leiding vandaan komt
Usually tap a nearby junction box or loop from an adjacent socket. That is allowed if the circuit can take the extra load and the number of points per circuit stays within limits. We check that — there is no point hanging a tenth outlet on a circuit that then trips at the first vacuum.
Hakken of opbouw
In plaster or plasterboard recessing is simple. In solid masonry you have to chase: € 17 per metre in brick, € 24 in concrete, plus € 14 per metre to make the chase plaster-ready again. For a single point in an awkward place a neat surface trunking solution is sometimes wiser — we will say so.
What we do not do
We do not tap a circuit that is already full, we do not use an existing lighting circuit for sockets, and we do not put a socket in bathroom zones. That sounds obvious, but it is exactly what we find when someone had it done cheaply before.
Plaster-ready, not painted
We close the chases and hand over plaster-ready. Finishing and painting can be in the same project with us — and that part then falls under the reduced 9% VAT rate, because painting and plastering do, and electrical work does not.
Do it in one go
Most people first add two points and call again half a year later. Two call-outs and two rounds of dust cost more than doing it in one visit. Walk through the house beforehand with a notepad and note where an extension lead sits now — that is your list.

Frequently asked questions.
What does adding a socket cost?
€ 145 including 21% VAT for a single socket and € 165 for a double. That covers the outlet, back box, cable from the nearest junction box or consumer unit, chasing and making good, finishing, testing and call-out within Amsterdam.
Have several fitted in one go and the price per point drops: from six points ten percent off the total, from twelve points fifteen percent. Call-out and isolation only need to happen once.
How many sockets do I need per room?
For a modern living room eight to twelve points, a kitchen six to eight above the worktop, a bedroom five to seven and a study eight to ten including data points. 1970s homes typically have two per room, and that is why there are so many extension leads.
The practical approach: walk through your home with a notepad and note where an extension lead or power strip sits today. That is exactly your list.
At what height do the sockets go?
Standard is 30 centimetres from the floor. That works for the vacuum, but not beside a bed or at a desk — there we advise 70 centimetres so you can reach while seated. Above a worktop it becomes 110 to 120 centimetres, and a switch sits about 105 centimetres beside the door.
It costs nothing extra to set them at the right height, provided you say so before we start chasing. Moving afterwards costs € 135 plus making good.
Is chasing needed and how much dust does it make?
In plaster or plasterboard it is manageable: drill a hole and hide a cable. In solid masonry you have to chase, and that makes dust. We use extraction on the chase machine and put up dust barriers where needed, but completely dust-free does not exist.
Chasing costs € 17 per metre in brick and € 24 in concrete, plus € 14 per metre to make the chase plaster-ready. For a single point in an awkward place neat trunking is sometimes wiser — we will say so.
Can a socket go anywhere?
Almost anywhere, but not in bathroom zones: in zones 0, 1 and 2 an ordinary socket is not allowed. Outside the zones it is fine, provided the circuit is protected by a 30 mA RCD.
Also: the circuit we tap into must handle the extra load. If it is already busy, we would rather add a circuit (€ 265) than hang a tenth point on a circuit that trips at the first vacuum.
How long does it take?
Three-quarters of an hour to an hour per point in a typical home, less if several points share the same cable run. A list of eight to ten points through the whole house is usually one working day.
You are only without power on the circuits we work on, and then only briefly. In practice you notice little besides the noise and the dust.
Do you add sockets for English-speaking clients in Amsterdam?
Yes. Adding a single socket costs € 145 including 21% VAT, a double € 165 — covering the outlet, the back box, the cable run, chasing and making good, finishing, testing and the call-out within Amsterdam.
The rate drops with volume: ten percent off from six points, fifteen percent from twelve, because the call-out and isolation only happen once. Walk through your home and note where an extension lead currently sits — that is your list.
