Almost everyone wants the fastest charger at first. Then look at how you actually charge: a car that plugs in at six in the evening and leaves at seven in the morning has thirteen hours. At 7.4 kW that is already well over five hundred kilometres.

Take 11 kW if you are upgrading anyway or already have three-phase, and 7.4 kW if you have single-phase and do not drive three hundred kilometres every day. At home, 22 kW is almost always wasted money: most electric cars have an 11 kW onboard charger and cannot take that speed at all — the charger then simply delivers 11 kW, but you have paid for more.
Upgrading to three-phase is two invoices. We do the electrical work in your meter cupboard, from € 695. The grid operator — in Amsterdam that is Liander — adapts the supply and sends its own invoice of about € 369 for an upgrade to 3×25 A. That invoice does not run through us; we do handle the application and align the schedule.
The grid operator groups supplies into tariff bands. 1×25 A and 3×25 A fall into the same band. Upgrading to 3×25 A therefore does not raise your annual standing charge — you pay once for the adaptation and nothing extra afterwards.
Only from 3×35 A do you jump to a higher band, and then the standing charge rises sharply — easily several hundred euros a year, every year. Yet some installers routinely recommend 3×35 A “to be safe”. Always ask: we make a load calculation and only advise heavier if that calculation genuinely requires it.
If you have single-phase and want to charge at 7.4 kW, you usually need nothing from the grid operator. With load balancing the charger automatically adjusts its power to what the rest of your household is using at that moment, so your main fuse does not trip. That is hundreds of euros cheaper than upgrading and, for most people, more than enough.
Allow four to ten weeks between application and execution by the grid operator, depending on workload. We schedule our own work around it: the preparation in the meter cupboard we can do beforehand, so the charger works the same week the upgrade is complete.
“Why are you recommending 3×35 A instead of 3×25 A, and can you show me the load calculation?” If there is no clear answer, you are probably paying for years for capacity you do not use.
An EV charger is the heaviest appliance in your home. Without control it draws its full power regardless of what the rest of the house is doing. That is why we tick this € 265 as standard in the calculator above.

The charger is set to a fixed maximum, for example 16 A instead of 25 A. Simple and free, but you always charge more slowly — including at night, when nothing else is on.
A meter in the meter cupboard continuously reads your total consumption and steers the charger. When you cook, the car charges more slowly; when everything is off, it speeds up by itself. You always use the full available capacity.
On single-phase with 7.4 kW, dynamic load balancing is practically mandatory, or you will trip regularly. On three-phase with 11 kW it is not essential but still wise, especially if you also have a heat pump or induction. If you have solar panels, the control can also send surplus straight to the car instead of the grid — at current feed-in costs that saves more than the investment.
In Amsterdam far from everyone has a private driveway. A charging point in a shared car park is technically straightforward, but it is mainly an organisational process. The technical work takes us a day; the permission usually costs you a meeting.
Since the legal change around charging infrastructure, a VvE (owners’ association) may not simply refuse a reasonable request for a charging point, but it may set conditions: on the execution, insurance, ownership of the installation and who bears the cost on moving. You need a technical file for that.
We prepare that file: a drawing of the route, a load calculation for the garage supply, the installation specifications, our insurance details and a proposal for the meter setup. For € 245 you take something to the meeting that nobody can raise a technical objection to.
If you are the first with a charging point, have us calculate what happens when there are six in three years. A central provision with distribution installed now is cheaper per point than six separate connections added one after another — and it prevents the seventh resident being told it is no longer possible.

Installation with us starts at € 625 for 7.4 kW on single-phase, € 850 for 11 kW on three-phase and € 1,150 for 22 kW — including materials, labour and 21% VAT, and including the first ten metres of cable. Beyond that we charge € 45 per metre.
You buy the charger itself separately: allow € 500 to € 1,200 for a single-phase model and € 1,000 to € 2,500 for a three-phase model. If your supply needs upgrading, add our installation work of € 695 plus roughly € 369 one-off from the grid operator. A complete home charging point therefore typically lands between € 1,300 and € 2,200 for single-phase, and between € 2,500 and € 5,000 for three-phase.
Only for 11 kW and 22 kW. A 7.4 kW charger runs fine on single-phase, provided you have dynamic load balancing installed so the charger throttles back when you cook or wash at the same time.
If you do upgrade, 3×25 A is almost always the right answer: it falls into the same tariff band as 1×25 A at the grid operator, so your annual standing charge does not rise. Only from 3×35 A does the standing charge jump sharply. Do not let yourself be sold 3×35 A without a load calculation.
Rarely. Most electric cars have an 11 kW onboard charger and cannot take 22 kW at all — the charger then simply delivers 11 kW, but you have paid for the dearer installation and often for a heavier supply.
22 kW is worth considering if you charge two cars on one point, if you drive very high business mileage and need short daytime top-ups, or if your car demonstrably has a 22 kW onboard charger. Ask us to look at your model’s specification with you.
Load balancing makes the charger adjust its power to what the rest of your household is using at that moment. If you cook on induction while the dryer runs, the car charges a little more slowly; when everything is off, it speeds up by itself. That way your main fuse never trips.
On single-phase with 7.4 kW it is practically essential. On three-phase with 11 kW it is not essential but still wise, especially with a heat pump or induction. If you have solar panels, the control can also send surplus straight to the car instead of the grid. We charge € 265 for it, including the meter and setup.

Technically you need a connection to the central board with its own circuit, an intermediate meter so your consumption is settled separately, a cable tray to your space and a distribution system. A charging point including intermediate meter costs € 1,395. For € 245 we deliver the technical file — drawing, load calculation, specifications and insurance details — that you can take to the meeting.
The fitting itself takes three to six hours, usually half a day. You are without power for about an hour while we connect in the meter cupboard.

We are not tied to a brand and supply chargers with no markup, so our advice is free. Focus on: a tethered cable or a socket (tethered is more convenient but dearer and more vulnerable), support for dynamic load balancing, a decent app without a subscription, and whether the charger can send solar surplus to the car.
For a rented home or business mileage, a charger with built-in kWh registration and charge-card support is practical so you can claim the consumption. Tell us your situation and we will name two or three models that fit.
21%. The reduced 9% rate in the Netherlands applies only to the labour element of insulating, plastering, painting and wallpapering in homes older than two years. Electrical work, including EV chargers, is not on that list.
There is an adjacent rule that can work in your favour: if the meter cupboard is adapted as part of a solar panel installation on your home, that electrical work falls under the 0% rate. If you combine solar and a charger, tell us beforehand — we will then invoice it correctly split.

There are currently no structural national subsidies for private home chargers; municipal and provincial schemes vary and are sometimes temporarily available. Business drivers can often process the installation through the company and reclaim the VAT.
Because these schemes change regularly, we check at quote stage whether anything applies to your situation at that moment. We do not promise upfront something that later turns out not to exist.
